HORROR: Federal Agents Find Fetuses In Warehouse Used To Sell Body Parts

Agents found the fetuses during a December 2013 raid of the warehouse, which belongs to businessman Arthur Rathburn. Reuters reports: The fetuses, which appear to have been in their second trimester, were submerged in a liquid that included human brain tissue. Rathburn, a former body broker, is accused of defrauding customers by sending them diseased body parts. He has pleaded not guilty and his trial is set for January. How Rathburn acquired the fetuses and what he intended to do with them is unclear. Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said that the photos discovered by Reuters were a direct insult to human dignity. “The actions depicted in these photos are an insult to human dignity,” Goodlatte said. “[If individuals] violate federal laws and traffic in body parts of unborn children for monetary gain [they should be] held accountable.” Reuters’ report noted that in the United States it is legal to buy and sell cadavers and other body parts except for organs used in transplants and certain fetal tissue. However, the multimillion dollar a year body parts industry operates with minimal regulation, which means that “in most states, including Michigan, public health authorities are not required to regularly inspect body broker facilities.” For example, a reporter for Reuters was able to purchase two human heads and a cervical spine from Restore Life USA after sending just a couple of emails and paying “$900 plus shipping.” (Read More...) PROSECUTORS GIVE UP ON FELONIES AGAINST BABY BODY-PARTS INVESTIGATORS
Charges dropped against undercover journalists Published: 2 hours ago - July 26, 2016 BOB UNRUH About | Email | Archive Felony counts that had been filed by a “rogue” prosecutor in Texas against two investigators who in 2015 released videos uncovering the baby body-parts trade of Planned Parenthood have been dismissed by a judge.The prosecutor, who had been the target of outrage when the charges against David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt were filed last winter, asked for the dismissal on Tuesday, and the request quickly was granted by the judge in the case. The videos revealed Planned Parenthood executives explaining how they could adjust abortion procedures to save the body parts requested by the undercover videographers, who were posing as representatives of a company dealing in the trade of fetal tissue. They also talked about how much money they wanted, with one executive infamously describing how she wanted a Lamborghini. However, changing abortion procedures in such circumstances, as well as profiting from transactions, violates federal law. WND reported that talk radio host Rush Limbaugh described the Texas indictments as a “rogue” prosecutor working with a “pro-abortion” staffer inside his own office. “So all that has to happen is that your rogue prosecutor, working in concert with your pro-abortion activist in the DA’s office, get[s] in the grand jury room and start[s] explaining all this to the grand jury, which is made up of your average Hillary voter, for all we know,” he said at the time. “And you start explaining what really went on here. Here we have this great organization, Planned Parenthood, that’s trying to plan families and trying to protect women from the terrible, almost fatal disease of pregnancy, and here come these rogue agents disguised as journalists, but they don’t have immunity, and they’re the ones who’ve engaged in criminal activity,” he said. Peter Breen, a lawyer for Daleiden from the Thomas More Society, said: “Today’s dismissal in Houston is a huge win for the First Amendment rights of undercover journalists. David Daleiden used standard undercover journalism techniques and followed all applicable laws in doing so. This meritless and retaliatory prosecution should never have been brought. Planned Parenthood did wrong here, not David Daleiden.” His comment came after Harris County moved to dismiss the remaining charge on the basis of his lawyers’ motion to dismiss due to the invalidity of the grand jury that issued the indictment. Liberty Counsel, which is representing Merritt, said its client was cleared of the “baseless and frivolous” charges. “We celebrate this victory for Sandra Merritt as she did nothing wrong. She exposed the sale of baby body parts by Planned Parenthood and today she has been vindicated,” said Mat Staver, chairman of Liberty Counsel. “The indictment was politically motivated and should never have been filed in the first place.” The two still face the possibility of civil action brought by pro-abortion interests in California. The abortionists claim that they suffered a loss in income because of the revelations of their practices, and that Daleiden and Merritt are responsible. But the pro-life group Operation Rescue said the vindication of the two undercover investigators was important. “This is vindication of the work of David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress. I am so pleased that justice has prevailed! These false charges can no longer be used by Planned Parenthood and their cronies as a smokescreen to hide their own criminal conduct,” said Troy Newman, Operation Rescue’s president and a founding board member for the Center for Medical Progress, through which Daleiden and Merritt worked. They were accused in the felony indictment of using actors’ IDs and in a misdemeanor count of attempting to purchase aborted baby organs from Planned Parenthood’s high-volume late-term abortion facility in Houston, Texas. The misdemeanor counts were thrown out earlier. As WND reported when the indictment was released in Texas, it raised many questions. Daleiden and an associate were indicted by a grand jury assembled by Harris County prosecutor Devon Anderson, who has financial ties to a lawyer representing abortionists. The indictment came after the grand jury was told to investigate Planned Parenthood, not the investigators. At the time, Operation Rescue called for a new “untainted” grand jury. Operation Rescue reported its information “indicates the grand jury indictments against David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt were likely in retaliation against Operation Rescue for filing a complaint against Houston abortionist Douglas Karpen, which led to a grand investigation of him in 2013.” Karpen was accused by former co-workers of murdering babies born alive during shoddy abortions. “Chip Lewis, Karpen’s attorney, falsely accused Operation Rescue of paying three former Karpen employees to testify against him and of ‘doctoring’ grisly photographs of babies Karpen had allegedly murdered, according to witnesses,” OR said. “Lewis threatened Operation Rescue after no true bill was returned against Karpen. Lewis told the Houston Chronicle, ‘Those responsible for bringing these wholly unfounded allegations against Dr. Karpen will be held responsible for their crimes.’ He further threatened an investigation of Operation Rescue, which never materialized.” It is Lewis, Operation Rescue said, who “has tight connections to District Attorney Devon Anderson.” “He is a long time personal friend of hers and her now deceased husband, former D.A. Mike Anderson, and is the largest political donor to the Anderson family. It could be assumed that Anderson owes Lewis for his friendship and political favors.” Further, Planned Parenthood lawyer Josh Schaffer “stated that during the grand jury proceedings, he and prosecutors maintained a ‘dialogue … about the details of the case, and kept that going through,'” court records reveal. “To further demonstrate collusion with the pro-abortion lawyers, an attorney for the National Abortion Foundation, Mr. Derek Foran, announced to the world via The New York Times that he had insider information and ‘learned about the indictments in Texas about a half hour before they were publicly announced,'” records state. The submission also explains Anderson’s grand jury violates a variety of procedural rules, leaving the indictment invalid. Among the offenses committed against Daleiden? “It is well settled that no person may disclose the existence of an indictment as it is to be kept secret until the defendant is in custody or has been released on bond …” court filings explain. The grand jury also was without “proper authority,” so the charge “must be quashed,” the filing explains. “Furthermore, the prosecutors have systematically leaked grand jury proceedings to unauthorized persons. There is no justifiable basis for this conduct and granting this motion to quash the indictments is the only appropriate remedy,” it said. A spokesman in Anderson’s office told WND she was not taking questions on the issue, and a statement by Anderson said: “These matters will be thoroughly reviewed by a judge and jury. I am confident that the actions of the DA’s office in this case will withstand any scrutiny.” Cheryl Sullenger of Operation Rescue said it is well known that Anderson is a close friend of Karpen’s attorney, Lewis, and after Anderson’s grand jury “no-billed” Karpen, Lewis donated $25,000 to Anderson’s political campaigns. Further, one of Anderson’s staff members is on the board of the local abortion organization. The undercover videos have prompted a number of states to defund Planned Parenthood and several congressional investigations have begun into the organization that receives half-a-billion dollars a year from U.S. taxpayers. One conclusion already reached was that profits were made in the baby body-parts trade. In the first undercover video released by CMP, Deborah Nucatola of Planned Parenthood commented on crushing babies. “We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact,” she said. Bought and Paid For: $86,917 Reasons Planned Parenthood Owns New Abortion Panel

In fact, the abortion lobby as a whole has given these six Members of Congress hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is the abortion industry’s Congressional dream team. As The Hill reports: House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) 16% (D-Calif.) has picked six strong abortion rights supporters for the GOP-led panel on Planned Parenthood, setting up a showdown over the already-controversial probe. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) 16% (D-Ill.), a leading member of the House Pro-Choice Caucus, was picked as the top Democrat on the panel. She will join five other abortion rights supporters on the panel, including Reps. Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.), Diana DeGette (Colo.), Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) 11% (Calif.), Suzan DelBene (Wash.) and Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) 16% (N.J.). But these are far more than abortion rights supporters; these Members are handpicked by the abortion industry. They are practically on Planned Parenthood’s payroll. According to data compiled from the Center for Responsive Politics and the Federal Election Commission, Planned Parenthood has dolled out $86,917 to these six Members of Congress alone. Here’s the breakdown of Planned Parenthood’s payments:
The abortion lobby, Emily’s List, has given the ranking member of this panel (which is supposed to be investigating the abortion industry’s legally dubious practice of selling aborted babies’ body parts to pad “their bottom line”), Rep. Schakowsky, over $64,000 dollars in direct campaign contributions. It has handed Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-WA) 9% over $48,000. Likewise NARAL Pro-Choice America has flooded Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) 13%’s campaign coffers with over $31,000 and Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) 19%’s with over $19,000. All totaled, the abortion industry has paid more than $305,000 for the six Democrats appointed to the Select Investigative Panel tasked with investigating Planned Parenthood. But this only accounts for direct campaign contributions and does not include the potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars more in independent expenditures on these members’ behalf. This is far beyond a conflict of interest. The Democrats on the panel are literally sponsored by Planned Parenthood and big abortion. They might as well wear their logos to the committee hearings. This blood money has paid for Planned Parenthood’s congressional defense team – an all-star band of abortion radicals to do the abortion industry’s dirty work. It’s unquestionable that the Democrats selected to this committee will do everything in their power to deflect, disrupt, and deceive. While Minority Leader Pelosi mocks that this is a “Select Committee to Attack Women’s Health,” her Democrat appointees are trying to create the Select Committee to Protect Planned Parenthood. They’re not interested in the truth. They’re not interested in the law. They’re not interested in defending women (especially unborn women). They’re only interested in defending abortion – at all cost (though it seems to pay well). The American people (and the unborn babies who are being sold part-by-part) deserve a real investigation. Over 317,000 people – that’s right, one person for every dollar the abortion industry has paid to its abortion dream team – have signed our petition demanding an investigation into Planned Parenthood’s atrocities. Rude truth for Obama: Viable children murdered YESTERDAY in late-term abortions triple those slain in Oregon shooting

I saw this Vox article on the murder rate from guns versus the murder rate by terrorism, which is an asinine comparison, but okay. So I decided I was going to fix their chart for them and add another category as a comparison. I have a huge problem though. Once I scale this up to to accommodate the 1.06 million abortions per year, the line for gun homicides drops down so small you can’t even see it. It’s statistically zero at any resolution I can paste into an email. So then I decided, what the heck, I’ll just add late term abortions. This is 1.2% of all abortions as they like to claim. These are babies that could live without their mother had their brains not been sucked out and limbs pulled off. If they would have just delivered them to the hospital they most likely could have survived on their own, with full Constitutional rights and citizenship. The question for Obama should be, what is your end goal with gun control? Are you really trying to protect as many lives as you can? I don’t think he is. Because if so it would be more wise to require a license and a three day waiting period to have an abortion than it would to get a gun. Yesterday alone, more than 3 times as many third trimester babies – viable children – were murdered by abortion doctors than people were murdered in Oregon. Here’s the rude truth for Obama; by the time you finish reading this sentence, more innocent children will have been murdered by abortion than innocent people were killed at that school in Oregon. Except I was forced to help pay to murder those babies with my tax money, and there’s nothing I can do to stop that. House Sets Votes On Two Bills In Response To Planned Parenthood Videos

The first, sponsored by Rep. Diane Black (R-TN), would place a one-year moratorium on federal funding to any Planned Parenthood affiliates that conduct abortions while investigations into the videos' claims continue. The second, McCarthy said, "adds criminal penalties to people who violate the Born Alive act, for medical providers who fail to provide medical care to a baby who survives the abortion procedure." It will be sponsored by Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ), he said. "Americans are rightfully outraged by what was depicted in these videos and Congress and the American people have a right to know exactly what is happening," McCarthy said. "These two critical bills will ensure that we will get all the facts and protect those who cannot protect themselves." Since the release of the heavily edited videos -- the claims of which Planned Parenthood vehemently refutes -- anti-abortion lawmakers have rallied against the reproductive health organization and have called for the elimination of federal funds to Planned Parenthood. The move to vote on the two House bills appears to be an attempt by leadership to offer an alternative route for conservative lawmakers to express their anger over the videos, rather than flirt with a possible shutdown of the government over Planned Parenthood's federal funding. Planned Parenthood Action Fund issued a statement from vice president of communications Eric Ferrero in response to news of the vote: “Now that the false claims against Planned Parenthood have fallen apart, politicians are heartlessly scrambling to attack women’s access to health care however they can," Ferrero said. "It’s clear those behind these attacks have always had a clear agenda: to ban abortion, and cut millions of women and men across the country from necessary reproductive health care. Late this week, Planned Parenthood’s website included a "donations" page listing companies that provided direct-giving and/or a matching gifts program. After Coca-Cola joined Xerox and Ford Motor Co. in requesting to be removed from the list — they all said they were erroneously listed — Planned Parenthood took down the page. On Tuesday, The Daily Signal reported that the website 2nd Vote, which tracks "the flow of money from consumers to political causes," found 41 companies that directly contribute to Planned Parenthood. After the story’s publication, Xerox, Ford and Coca-Cola contacted The Daily Signal, and according to Breitbart, "more desertions" are likely. "Pro-life grassroots activists will likely keep calling and asking the remaining corporate giants from the list whether they support the sale of aborted baby parts for medical experimentation," according to Breitbart. "But now that the list is down, the world will not know how many more corporations will ask to be taken off the list of Planned Parenthood supporters." A Planned Parenthood affiliate at the center of the baby body part sales scandal recently reported a record $100 million income. Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, based in San Jose, California, was caught in a series of undercover videos allegedly selling aborted baby body parts for profit. A U.S. House investigative committee later referred it to federal authorities for criminal investigation, but there has been no word on the investigation for almost a year. Now, according its Federal Form 990 filed with the federal government, the California abortion chain is reaping in a record amount of money. Planned Parenthood Mar Monte reported an income of $109.7 millionduring its last fiscal year (July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2017), including $70.4 million from taxpayers. California is one of more than a dozen states that forces taxpayers to pay for elective abortions. The abortion chain paid its top six employees about $1.3 million in salaries, and reported an “excess income” of $15.5 million, according to the filing. A large chunk of the money came from taxpayers, but the undercover investigation by the Center for Medical Progress suggests that more may have come from the sales of aborted baby body parts. In 2016, CMP leader David Daleiden outlined how much money the affiliate could make selling aborted baby parts in a year: “Planned Parenthood Mar Monte did 18,035 abortions [in 2015] – if each abortion yielded just one ‘usable’ ‘product of conception’ for StemExpress, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte stood to gain nearly $1 million every year from its sale of tiny baby hearts, lungs and brains.” StemExpress is a human tissue procurement company that worked with Planned Parenthoods, including the Mar Monte branch. Its promotional materials mentioned “financially profitable” partnerships, though Planned Parenthood has denied any illegal activity. What will happen next remains to be seen. In December 2017, the U.S. Department of Justice took up the U.S. House committee’s calls for an investigation into the alleged illegal aborted baby body parts sales. The committee also found evidence that Planned Parenthood Mar Monte and others may have broken HIPAA patient privacy laws. “These violations occurred when the abortion clinics disclosed patients’ individually identifiable health information to StemExpress to facilitate the TPB’S efforts to procure human fetal tissue for resale,” the House committee explained. According to the committee, StemExpress put tissue procurement technicians inside abortion facility to harvest aborted babies’ body parts. These technicians received patients’ private medical records and were permitted to interview patients, the committee said. SIGN THE PETITION! I Support Defunding Planned Parenthood! The procurement technicians were paid hourly and a per tissue “bonus” for each item they procured; and then StemExpress paid the abortion facility for each fetal tissue and blood sample, according to the panel’s investigation. StemExpress technicians also appeared to be negotiating sales with customers while abortions were taking place – “presumably before they obtained informed consent to procure the fetal tissue,” according to the investigation. It referred to a series of graphic emails between a StemExpress employee and a potential buyer who wanted an aborted baby’s skull and limbs. In one email exchange, an employee wrote, “There is one [abortion] case currently in the room, I will let you know how the limbs and calvarium [skull] look to see if you are able to take them in about 15 minutes.” The emails also raised questions about whether the abortionists illegally changed the abortion procedure to better harvest the aborted baby’s body parts. Despite these questionable dealings, the California abortion chain has been profiting hugely off hardworking taxpayers. In March, the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office released a report about the taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood and noted that the Mar Monte branch had reaped in $229 million between 2013 and 2015. Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion business in America, aborting approximately 320,000 unborn babies every year. The national arm’s most recent annual report showed a record income of $1.46 billion, with about half a billion dollars coming from taxpayers. Indeed, Richards is a big proponent of a would-be culture where instead of hiding their abortions in shame, women will “shout them” from the rooftops and take full ownership of that sweet time in their lives when they killed the life growing inside them for the sake of convenience. Asked about the sexual harassment scandals, Richards said, “I think there’s some parallels in the reproductive health movement, in that for years women have been ashamed of sharing their own stories, including about abortion, abortion stories, and it is only now that women are sharing them on social media and that they’re being covered in the news as actually part of women’s healthcare.” Oh, Cecile, abortion has nothing at all to do with women’s healthcare or healthcare of any kind. It is, in fact, the opposite of healthcare. And for you to try to take advantage of this “moment” in our culture to push your obscene agenda just shows what a black soul you really have. CALIFORNIA CHARGES PLANNED PARENTHOOD VIDEO JOURNALISTS WITH 15 FELONIES
March 30, 2017 by Dr. Susan Berry California prosecutors have charged the two undercover journalists who produced videos of Planned Parenthood officials allegedly selling the harvested body parts of aborted babies for a profit with 15 felonies. The office of state Attorney General Xavier Becerra is alleging that David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt of the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) recorded 14 individuals connected to the abortion and fetal tissue industries in Los Angeles, Pasadena, San Francisco, and El Dorado, without their consent. The explosive videos of the individuals, allegedly discussing how they obtain the highest quality fetal body parts during abortions in order to maximize sales to biotech companies, rocked the nation and set off multiple congressional investigations into the abortion and fetal tissue procurement industries. In CMP’s most recent video, Planned Parenthood abortionist Dr. DeShawn Taylor allegedly describes to the video journalists how she delivers intact fetuses during late-term abortions. Taylor also explains the difficulties abortionists face when a baby comes through the procedure with signs of life, and complains about the laws in a “conservative” state like Arizona, where she once served as medical director of a Planned Parenthood facility. “In Arizona, if the fetus comes out with any signs of life, we’re supposed to transport it. To the hospital,” she says. When asked if there is “any standard procedure for verifying signs of life?” Taylor responds by saying, “The key is, you need to pay attention to who’s in the room, right?” Becerra, a former Democratic congressman who became attorney general after his predecessor, Kamala Harris was sworn in as a U.S. senator, said his office “will not tolerate the criminal recording of confidential conversations,” reports the Los Angeles Times. “The right to privacy is a cornerstone of California’s constitution, and a right that is foundational in a free democratic society,” Becerra added. Charges brought against Daleiden and Merritt in Harris County, Texas – under suspicion of bias – were ultimately dropped. One of Planned Parenthood’s biotech partners – StemExpress – also backed off a lawsuit against the videomakers. In a statement released on CMP’s website, Daleiden said: The bogus charges from Planned Parenthood’s political cronies are fake news. They tried the same collusion with corrupt officials in Houston, TX and failed: both the charges and the DA were thrown out. The public knows the real criminals are Planned Parenthood and their business partners like StemExpress and DV Biologics--currently being prosecuted in California—who have harvested and sold aborted baby body parts for profit for years in direct violation of state and federal law. With release of this evidence, Republicans say, they have enough documentation to show that several abortion clinics and middleman procurement businesses may have violated federal law. “It is just horrifying,” Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., who leads the House’s investigation of the fetal tissue industry, told The Daily Signal. “They are putting a dollar value on these organs from these children—unborn children that have been aborted. Under federal law, the transportation of fetal tissue is based on a nonprofit model. The committee’s documents, which will be used today in a House hearing on the pricing of fetal tissue, include payments made from a middleman procurement company to an abortion clinic on a monthly basis. Those dollar amounts range from $6,010 to $11,365. Over the span of a year, one research institution paid a middleman company $42,535 to obtain 38 fetal brains, 12 fetal hearts, three fetal upper/lower limbs, five fetal livers, and 12 fetal pancreases, according to the select House panel’s documents. The Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives, as it is formally known, was created on Oct. 7, 2015, when the House passed a resolution calling for a full and complete investigation regarding the medical practices of abortion service providers and the business practices of the procurement organizations that sell fetal tissue. In the most recent documents being released, the panel did not publicly identify companies or individuals involved in the transactions “out of an abundance of caution,” Blackburn told The Daily Signal in a phone interview prior to the hearing. Because the documents were highly redacted, The Daily Signal was unable to independently confirm the prices of each body part. However, the panel announced earlier this year that it was issuing subpoenas to companies and organizations that refused to cooperate with the investigation. Those groups included StemExpress, Ganogen, Biomedical Research Institute of America, the University of New Mexico, and Southwestern Women’s Options. Democrats on the select panel have called the investigation a “witch hunt” by Blackburn and other Republicans who oppose abortion. As The Daily Signal has previously reported, Democrats have condemned the panel’s investigators for requesting the names of doctors, medical students, researchers, and others involved in the abortion and fetal tissue procurement industries, arguing that obtaining those names could make the panel “complicit in physical assaults or murders of these people.” But with the imminent release of the next round of evidence, Blackburn said she is hopeful Democrats “will recognize that we are taking every possible precaution and doing our best to fulfill the requirement that Congress has made of us.” The 1993 National Institutes of Health Revitalization Act prohibits profiting from the sale of any fetal tissue. However, it is legal to provide and accept payment to cover reasonable costs for “transportation, implantation, processing, preservation, quality control, or storage of human fetal tissue.” Among documents uncovered in the investigation is an image of a procurement company marketing itself to abortion clinics as “financially profitable.” The name of that company also was redacted. Source: U.S. House Select Investigative Panel Questions about whether abortion clinics and middleman procurement companies profit from transactions involving body parts and other fetal tissue from aborted babies were raised after a series of videos published last year. The hidden-camera videos showed officials at Planned Parenthood affiliates discussing the buying and selling of fetal tissue with a middleman company, StemExpress. Cate Dyer, founder of StemExpress, told The New York Times in July that her company “obtained fetal tissue in accordance with the rules made by ethics boards at the institutions buying it.” In that article, Dyer also was quoted as saying the process of obtaining fetal cells is “hard,” “expensive,” and takes “millions of dollars of equipment.” Planned Parenthood Federation of America consistently has deniedany wrongdoing and was cleared in multiple state investigations. In October, after facing questions about its fetal tissue donation practices, Planned Parenthood announced it would no longer accept any reimbursement as part of its tissue donation program. During today’s hearing, called “The Pricing of Fetal Tissue,” Republicans were expected to call Brian Patrick Lennon, a former assistant U.S. attorney from Michigan, to testify as a witness. In his written testimony, released in advance, Lennon argues that based on the evidence, an “ethical federal prosecutor could establish probable cause that both the abortion clinics and the procurement business violated the [federal] statute (42 U.S.C. § 289g-2), aided and abetted one another in violating the statute (18 U.S.C. § 2), and likely conspired together to violate the statute (18 U.S.C. § 371).” Republicans also were scheduled to hear testimony from Michael Norton, a former U.S. attorney for the state of Colorado; Catherine Glenn Foster, associate scholar at the Charlotte Lozier Institute and CEO and general counsel at Sound Legal; and Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., who is pro-life, among others. Democrats were slated to bring in Fay Clayton, a lawyer who formerly represented the Anatomical Gift Foundation, a nonprofit corporation that provided donated tissue to medical researchers. In her prepared statement, Clayton criticizes Republicans for “using [the panel’s] subpoena power to compel testimony from health care providers and medical researchers” and for failing to subpoena David Daleiden, founder of the Center for Medical Progress, the pro-life group behind the string of undercover videos targeting Planned Parenthood. “The fact that the select panel has been using its subpoena power to compel testimony from health care providers and medical researchers—who have better things to do with their time than Mr. Daleiden does—suggests the panel is not genuinely interested in public policy at all,” Clayton says in the written statement. Democrats also were set to hear from Robert Raben, president and founder of the Raben Group, a progressive policy group, and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., a pro-choice lawmaker. Witnesses likely will be asked to respond to Blackburn and other panel members who, the chairman said, “believe that it is more than likely that payments to the abortion clinics and to the procurement businesses have exceeded reasonable cost.” ___________________________

PP President Cecile Richards released a new video Thursday boasting about Planned Parenthood’s “full range” of health care services such as cancer screening, birth control and abortion. And she said the organization offers “much more,” by supporting millions as they “build their futures.” But she tried to distance herself, and the organization, from the recorded statements of Deborah Nucatola, the head of Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Medical Services Division. She was caught on video describing how Planned Parenthood sells the body parts of aborted unborn children and uses partial-birth abortions to harvest intact parts, statements that have even those who traditionally support the abortion business recoiling. The scandal was revealed in the following video: It was released by the Center for Medical Progress, and reveals Nucatola of Planned Parenthood at a business lunch with a man and a woman posing as buyers from a human biologics company. The full, unedited video, from which the shorter version was taken, is here: Richards noted that Nucatola, without mentioning her by name, didn’t have the proper “compassion” when she was speaking about dismembering unborn babies and crushing certain parts of their bodies to leaves others uncrushed, and therefore usable. “This is unacceptable and I personally apologize for the staff member’s tone and statements,” Richards said. She explained, “In the video, one of our staff members speaks in a way that does not reflect that compassion. … As always, if there’s ever any aspect of our work that can be strengthened, we want to know about it, and take swift action to address it.” The original video has been on fire on the web, with millions of people viewing it. Most GOP presidential candidates were harshly critical of Planned Parenthood and several governors as well as members of Congress immediately called for investigations of the abortion industry giant. That wave continue to gain strength on Thursday, with a announcement from Indiana Gov. Mike Pence about an investigation in his state. Indiana Right to Life spokeswoman Cathie Humbarger said, “The pro-life community is outraged by the video that shows a Planned Parenthood executive casually discussing the harvesting and trafficking of aborted baby body parts. “We are grateful for Gov. Pence’s leadership. No Hoosier wants aborted baby body parts illegally obtained and sold. We believe this investigation requested by Gov. Pence into Planned Parenthood’s practices is important for the dignity of aborted babies and their mothers.” The governor’s own statement said he was directing the state Department of Health and the state attorney general to investigate. He’s also copied federal prosecutors in the state on his request. “Every Hoosier should be deeply troubled by allegations that Planned Parenthood affiliates are engaged in the trafficking of human remains. If true, this is not only illegal, it is morally reprehensible,” he said. “Under federal and state law, the buying or selling of human body parts is a felony and, as governor, I have an obligation to make sure this is not happening in Indiana.” He continued, “Whatever one’s view on the issue of abortion, Hoosiers can be assured that we will make certain that this appalling practice is not taking place in Indiana.” See Richards’ statements: WND reported only a day earlier that the video’s statements were so egregious that even Planned Parenthood backers were recoiling. At the New York Times, Northwestern University professor Laurie Zoloth described it as “terribly disturbing because the physician seems to be engaged in a transaction in which the goal is to extract tissue to meet the needs of a company, rather than being focused on the core purpose of her clinic, which is to provide a safe medical procedure.” Zoloth continued, “The doctor seems extraordinarily cavalier … Having this discussion over a meal, while drinking what appears to be wine, takes this further from the realm of professional clinical medicine and into the realm of business.” She said, “The specter of cutting up and using hearts and lungs and legs from aborted fetuses disturbs even supporters who are pro-choice. The physician seems in the video to be unaware of this basic moral problem.” John wrote that the release raises a lot of questions. “Is Planned Parenthood illegally profiting off the sale of fetal body parts? According to the full video, probably not. Are Planned Parenthood officials violating medical ethics rules by changing the way they perform abortions to preserve body parts for research? Unclear. Regardless of the source or the manner in which the recording was obtained, this video will affirm many of the worst fears of Planned Parenthood’s critics and sway others who weren’t sure quite where they stand.” Huppke continued, “I fully support women’s reproductive rights and believe Planned Parenthood – which provides far more than just abortion services – is a good organization that helps women across the country. I also understand the passionate opposition to abortion and respect the fact that, for many, abortion is inherently immoral and the use of tissue from an aborted fetus, regardless of what good might come of it, is the continuation of an immoral act. “The Center for Medical Progress and other anti-abortion activists are, of course, doing all they can to make this video seem as macabre and damning as possible. They’re making allegations that don’t stand up to scrutiny, but the truth is that the video shows a pragmatism that many, even those who support a woman’s right to choose, will find discomforting.” And Kyle Wingfield at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said, “The video casts doubt on that part about the ‘highest ethical and legal standards’ being in place. In the video, Nucatola is heard talking about avoiding the ‘perception’ Planned Parenthood clinics were making money.” He quoted, “Some might do it for free. (Others) want to come to a number that it doesn’t look like they’re making money. They want to come to a number that looks like it is a reasonable number for the effort that is allotted on their part.” He then cited Nucatola’s comments about dollars and cents. “That’s not exactly calculating or reimbursing actual costs, or ensuring any charge for the organs is strictly a break-even amount. One would think that an organization as large and scrutinized as Planned Parenthood would have protocols for its clinics to use in setting these kinds of prices, to ensure there’s no room for confusion. But the concern, as relayed by Nucatola, seems to be only making the price ‘reasonable’ so no one asks questions. House Leaders Devise Plan to Fund Planned Parenthood and Retreat from Obamacare Repeal
By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | October 20th, 2015 at 12:00 AM | 11 “House conservatives need to wake up and realize what their Leaders are trying to accomplish and vote no.”This week amidst all the fog surrounding who will be the next Speaker, House Leaders are planning to pass a bill that will be a significant setback on two major conservative priorities–defunding Planned Parenthood and fully repealing Obamacare. They need to be stopped. Congress recently voted for a “continuing resolution” to extend funding for the federal government until December 11, and in doing so, continue funding for Planned Parenthood. 151 Republicans voted against this bill, although many of them knew their votes were frankly not needed as the Democrats joined with the Boehner Republicans to ensure its passage. That was the vote that mattered, and the one that congressmen should be held accountable for. But Republican Leadership never asks their members to walk the plank on a hot-button issue without giving them a show vote to cover their tracks back home. The show vote will be this week in the form of a “reconciliation” bill that purports to defund Planned Parenthood and repeal small portions of Obamacare. To be clear, the reconciliation process is a valuable legislative device to get certain types of bills through the Senate with 51 votes and avoid the filibuster. But its value depends on what is trying to be accomplished. It is not a one-size-fits-all procedure, and in this case, it is the exact procedure chosen to ensure that Planned Parenthood gets funded. Here is how. Congress has the power of the purse to deny funding to the organization through the appropriations process. Of course, this is the one route that Republicans in Congress refuse to use because the Democrats are threatening a government shutdown over any bill that denies funding to Planned Parenthood — and any mention of a government shutdown gives Republicans night terrors. Instead of using the appropriations process with all the leverage and media spotlight necessary to force President Obama and Senate Democrats to cave on an issue, they chose a process that offers no leverage, no media spotlight, and no chance of overcoming a unified Democrat front. At best, reconciliation offers to “get a bill to the President’s desk” but no leverage to actually accomplish the objective of getting it signed into law. Its an exercise in high-end failure theatre that also insulates congressmen who just voted to fund Planned Parenthood from any retribution from their voters. Unfortunately, many pro-life groups are supporting this gambit. Some like National Right to Life are complicit and doing the bidding of Republican Leaders. Some like Susan B. Anthony may not realize it. Regardless, all of these groups are ensuring that Congress possesses the cover it needs to ignore its power of the purse between now and December 11, when the next vote to fund the government occurs. But this is not just a setback on defunding Planned Parenthood. It’s also a complete retreat from the effort to fully repeal Obamacare. The Democrats used reconciliation to enact Obamacare, and it is going to be needed to repeal it. This year’s Congressional budget promised to use reconciliation for full repeal (to get the votes of conservative members on the budget) in order to lock in the commitment and test run the process for 2017. However, Republican Leaders hate that they are expected to repeal all of Obamacare in the future. They want to define “full repeal” as dealing with some of the most well-known provisions (medical device tax, individual mandate, employer mandate, etc.) while leaving in place the mammoth entitlements that will be harder politically to dislodge. They want to lower expectations for the future and distract voters from the objective of full repeal. This reconciliation bill that repeals only portions of Obamacare ensures they will succeed. House conservatives need to wake up and realize what their Leaders are trying to accomplish and vote no. The Democrats will have to vote no, giving the House Freedom Caucus the leverage to bring this bill down. In doing so, they will keep the expectation of full repeal of Obamacare alive and ensure that the fight on defunding Planned Parenthood is focused squarely on Congress’ power of the purse in the run up to December 11. There is a reason why the American people hate their government and Congress in particular. Its this type of governing by shiny object, and it needs to end. By Peter Sullivan - 09/15/15 09:27 AM EDT The anti-abortion Center for Medical Progress (CMP) released a new undercover Planned Parenthood video on Tuesday, right in the thick of a GOP debate over whether to risk a government shutdown by blocking funding to the healthcare organization. The latest video shows a number of Planned Parenthood officials discussing how issues around the use of fetal tissue could become a public relations problem for the organization. “We’re trying to figure this out as an industry, about how we’re going to manage remuneration,” said a woman identified as Deborah VanDerhei, national director for the Consortium of Abortion Providers at Planned Parenthood. “Because the headlines would be a disaster. “If you do decide that you want to engage in remuneration, then you need to, like, think that through, and think New York Times headline when you’re creating your policy,” she says. Eric Ferrero, vice president for communications at Planned Parenthood, called the new release "yet another heavily edited video making false claims about Planned Parenthood." “Even on this heavily edited video, Planned Parenthood staff are seen making it clear that fetal tissue donation must follow all laws and that there is no 'profit' or financial incentive for fetal tissue donation," he said in a statement. “For more than a decade, Planned Parenthood has had clear guidance related to fetal tissue donation, which complies with all laws and actually goes well beyond the legal requirements," he added. The CMP videos have created a storm for Planned Parenthood by repeatedly showing officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue. The videos are meant to cast the organization in a negative light, and have even led to some criticism from Democrats. Planned Parenthood officials have argued the videos are part of a smear campaign. They say the videos show that Planned Parenthood doesn't sell fetal tissue to profit but only to cover expenses, and the group has launched a public relations counteroffensive to buck up support. It points out that government investigations in several states have found no wrongdoing, and that it only has fetal tissue donation programs in two states, California and Washington. Conservatives want to block federal funding for Planned Parenthood as part of a measure to keep the government operating on Oct. 1. Thirty-one House Republicans have backed taking that stand, creating a problem for GOP leaders who worry their party would be blamed for a government shutdown. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), in an interview with Politico on Friday, called the fight an exercise in futility. In the new video, officials also say that Planned Parenthood chooses not to have a written policy around the issue of fetal tissue. Deborah Nucatola, another Planned Parenthood official, says the organization has answers to common questions about fetal tissue donation, but “we don’t have a policy per se, and that is by choice.” VanDerhei says other organizations make income through fetal tissue. “We have independent colleagues who generate a fair amount of income doing this,” she says.” And if they have smaller margins or don’t have the ability to fundraise because they’re not a nonprofit, that’s really helpful.” Another official, Vanessa Russo, identified as a Planned Parenthood official in Pennsylvania, says, “A company like this that wants to give our organization money for the tissue, I think that that’s a valid exchange and that that’s OK. "I literally have had women come in and they'll go in the [operating room] and they're back out in three minutes — and I'm going, 'What's going on?'" Perrin Larton, procurement manager for Advanced Bioscience Resources Inc. (ABR), says in the video. She was talking with CMP actors posing as executives of a new human biologics company. "Oh yeah, the fetus was already in the vaginal canal whenever we put her in the stirrups," Larton says. "It just fell out." Story continues below video. ABR, founded in 1989 by CEO Linda Tracy, charges $340 per second-trimester fetal tissue specimen, regardless of its quality, Larton says in the video. "Whenever we have a smooth portion of liver, we think that's good!" she says. The company, based in Rockville, Maryland, has been a contractor for Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest for years, says Dr. Katharine Sheehan, the San Diego clinic's medical director until 2013. "We have already a relationship with ABR," Sheehan says in the footage. "We've been using them for over 10 years, really a long time, just kind of renegotiated the contract. "They're doing the big collections for government-level collections and things like that," Sheehan says. When a CMP actor tries to negotiate fees with Sheehan, she says: "We return a portion of our fees to the clinics. Right, get a toe in and make it, make a pro — all right." The video also features Cate Dyer, the CEO of StemExpress, a rival biotech company who also discloses some of ABR's financials. Dyer's sister, Charlotte Ivancic, recently stepped down as health policy adviser for House Speaker John Boehner. She had been shown in an earlier CMP video discussing and laughing about shipping "intact" aborted fetal parts. "In the twisted world of baby-parts trafficking from Planned Parenthood abortion clinics, there are few unbroken rules," said David Daleiden, the center's founder. "It is imperative for lawmakers and law enforcement to act decisively to determine the full extent of Planned Parenthood and their proxies' lawbreaking, hold them accountable, and stop the taxpayer funding of these barbaric atrocities against humanity." Stephanie Armour from the Wall Street Journal reports: Three Planned Parenthood Federation of America clinics in Florida were ordered to stop performing second-trimester abortions after an investigation found they didn’t have the proper licenses, the state Agency for Health Care Administration said Wednesday. The investigation also found one clinic that wasn’t keeping proper logs relating to fetal remains, according to the agency. The state may take additional actions, including administrative sanctions, against the clinics. “Licenses are in place to protect the patient from unscrupulous operators and the state of Florida will ensure every facility is held accountable for its actions,” the agency said in a news release. Rick Scott last month ordered an investigation of Planned Parenthood clinics in the state following an antiabortion group’s release of undercover videos of Planned Parenthood officials discussing the procurement of fetal tissue for research following abortions. Aug. 4, 2015 10:28am Billy Hallowell A pro-life, medical ethics group has released the fifth video in its ongoing undercover series that allegedly shows Planned Parenthood doctors and staffers discussing the sale of aborted fetal body parts. The latest footage, which was captured on April 9, 2015, features Melissa Farrell, director of research for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast in Houston, Texas, who proclaims that her organization has been “doing research for many, many years.” Farrell also allegedly tells two actors posing as tissue buyers that Planned Parenthood can “get creative about when and where, and under what conditions can we interject something that is specific to the tissue procurement needs.” At one point, the buyers speak with her about “financial gain” over a meal, and at another point they are seen with medical staff observing fetal remains in a pathology lab — an incredibly graphic scene that is reminiscent of what unfolded at a different clinic in the fourth video. “This patient was at, like, 18 weeks, I think,” one medical staffer says, while sifting through fetal remains. The clip also features the faux tissue buyers presumably asking if abortion procedures can be changed and adjusted to account for specific organ and tissue needs, including fully intact fetuses — to which Farrell seemingly responds affirmatively. “So, if we alter our process and we are able to obtain intact fetal cadavers, then we can make it part of the budget that any dissections are this, and splitting the specimens into different shipments is this,” she said. “I mean that’s — it’s all just a matter of line items.” Watch the shocking footage below (caution: graphic): The footage seemingly repeatedly shows Farrell discussing how specific needs are taken into account. “We’ve had studies in which the company, or in the case of the investigator, has a specific need, for a certain portion of the products of conception and we bake that into our contract, and our protocol, that we follow this, so we deviate from our standard in order to do that,” she said. Farrell did mention in the heavily edited clip that input would be required from the doctors who perform the abortions. “In the cases of when it’s mattered, you know, physicians also need an intact specimen, they can make it happen,” she added. After three shocking videos caught Planned Parenthood doctors discussing and arranging the sale of body parts of aborted babies, a fourth video has been released today catching a Planned Parenthood vice president discussing how to break or get around the law to sell aborted babies. New undercover footage shows Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains’ Vice President and Medical Director, Dr. Savita Ginde, negotiating a fetal body parts deal, agreeing multiple times to illicit pricing per body part harvested, and suggesting ways to avoid legal consequences. In the video, actors posing as representatives from a human biologics company meet with Ginde at the abortion-clinic headquarters of PPRM in Denver to discuss a potential partnership to harvest fetal organs. A court has dropped some of the bogus charges against pro-life advocate David Daleiden, who exposed the sales of body parts from aborted babies at Planned Parenthood abortion clinics and throughout the abortion industry. The National Abortion Federation (NAF) dismissed seven out of eleven claims on Friday against Daleiden and his organization, the Center for Medical Progress (CMP), in court on Friday. In 2015, NAF sued David and CMP after they began releasing undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s trafficking of baby body parts. Buying and selling fetal tissue is illegal under federal law. Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund attorney Charles LiMandri said NAF successfully obtained a “gag order” from the court preventing Daleiden and CMP, during the course of litigation, from releasing the undercover videos recorded at NAF abortion conferences. Although dropping seven of the charges is a positive step, by dismissing the seven claims NAF is trying to speed up the case so it can secure a permanent gag order against David and CMP, which would block the release of the videos regardless of the case’s outcome, he said. “NAF’s latest litigation maneuvering shows that this case has only ever been about one thing—an unconstitutional silencing of a pro-life hero. As the Trump Administration continues its investigation of NAF’s gruesome actions, we expect their lawyers to do everything they can to permanently silence David. After all, NAF realizes just as much as we do that criminal indictments for many of NAF’s members are only a matter of time,” LiMandri said in a statement. NAF’s remaining claims accuse David and CMP of fraudulent misrepresentation, promissory fraud, breach of contract, and civil conspiracy. For instance, NAF complains that David broke the law because he allegedly violated the purported confidentiality agreements he signed at NAF’s annual conference. LiMandri said: “NAF is using these purported confidentiality agreements to hide their criminal deeds. But the public has a right to know about the true nature of the abortion industry. We hope that as this case moves forward, the court concludes that NAF’s remaining claims are meritless.” FCDF attorneys and co-counsel at the Thomas More Society will be filing a motion to dismiss NAF’s remaining claims. The gag order that the 9th Circuit placed on the Center for Medical Progress is unconstitutional based on past Supreme Court decisions, according to Daleiden’s attorneys. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed. U.S. Department Of Justice Finally Starts Investigating Planned Parenthood
DECEMBER 11, 2017 By Nicole Russell At least two years after the Center for Medical Progress released explosive undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood (PP) profited from aborted baby part harvesting, the Department of Justice has finally announced they will investigate PP. The videos prompted an investigation by the House Oversight Committee, which found, among other things, that PP did not need federal funding. Following that, the Senate Judiciary investigated PP and issued a report, “Human Fetal Tissue Research: Context and Controversy” published last December. Its summary says, “The activities of those involved, in the fetal tissue transfer industry potentially implicate a number of federal laws.” Following that, committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) told the FBI it should investigate PP: “The report documents the failure of the Department of Justice, across multiple administrations, to enforce the law that bans the buying and selling of human fetal tissue. It also documents substantial evidence suggesting that the specific entities involved in the recent controversy, and/or individuals employed by those entities, may have violated that law.” Now, Fox News reports that Justice Department Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd has requested unredacted documents from the Senate Judiciary Committee, “in order to further the Department’s ability to conduct a thorough and comprehensive assessment of that report based on the full range of information available.” Center for Medical Progress founder David Daleiden said in a statement, “Over two years ago, citizen journalists at The Center for Medical Progress first caught Planned Parenthood’s top abortion doctors in a series of undercover videos callously and flippantly negotiating the sale of tiny baby hearts, lungs, livers, and brains. Since then, two Congressional investigations found even deeper wrongdoing and confirmed that Planned Parenthood Federation of America, several of their biggest affiliates, and multiple business partners broke the law in a profit-driven scheme to commodify dismembered baby body parts. It is time for public officials to finally hold Planned Parenthood and their criminal abortion enterprise accountable under the law.” Given the myriad investigations and their findings, the real question is, if the DOJ comes to the same conclusion previous investigations have, what should be done about it? Many people believe that women who are victims of rape and become pregnant by this violent act is a good reason for them to have an abortion. In Victims and Victors (Acorn Books, 2000), a book written by David Reardon, Amy Sobie, and Julie Makimma, 192 women were interviewed. These women had had abortions after they became pregnant from rape. Nearly all the women said that they regretted the abortion, and over 90% said they would discourage other rape victims from choosing abortion. 49% of pregnancies in America are unplanned. 50% of these unplanned pregnancies are ended by abortion. 55% of women who have abortions have at least one living child already. 43% of women will all have at least 1 abortion by age 45. There are 50 million abortions performed each year worldwide. Out of these 50 million, 30 million are performed legally. 52% of females who have abortions are aged 25 or younger. Teens take up 20% and women aged 20-24 take up the remaining 32%. Of women who have abortions, 66% plan to have wanted children in the future. Black women are 3 times as likely to get an abortions as white women are; Hispanic women are 2 times as likely. Women who claim to have no part of any religious affiliation are 4 times more likely to have an abortion than women who are religious in some sort of way. Catholic women are 29% more likely than Protestant women to have an abortion. Out of all the women who have abortions, 66% are unmarried. Out of all women who have abortions, 75% say they had an abortion because the baby would have interfered with their life; 66% say that they couldn't have afforded a baby; and 50% said they didn't want to be a single mother or were having problems with their partner. 14,000 abortions are done because of rape/incest. (This only makes up about 1% of all abortions.) 93% of abortions occur in clinics/doctors' offices. The majority of abortions performed occur at 7-8 weeks into the pregnancy (38%). 16% of abortions are done at 6 weeks or less (even though almost all clinics will not perform abortions less than 6 weeks, because it would be too hard to make sure all the babies' body parts are out). 23% of abortions occur at 9-10 weeks, 11% at 11-12 weeks, 7% at 13-15 weeks, 4% at 16-20 weeks, and 1% for 21-40 weeks. Judge William Orrick in San Francisco on Friday issued a temporary restraining order against the Center for Medical Progress hours after the order was requested by the National Abortion Federation. In his three-page order, Orrick said the federation would likely suffer irreparable injury absent a temporary restraining order "in the form of harassment, intimidation, violence, invasion of privacy, and injury to reputation." The National Abortion Federation sued in federal court in San Francisco, alleging the Center for Medical Progress infiltrated its meetings and recorded its members. The group says release of any audio or video would put members in danger. "The safety and security of our members is our top priority," Vicki Saporta, association president and CEO, said in a statement. "That security has been compromised by the illegal activities of a group with ties to those who believe it is justifiable to murder abortion providers." David Daleiden, a leader of the Center for Medical Progress who is also named in the suit, said in a statement that Planned Parenthood and its allies were trying to silence the group and suppress investigative journalism. "The Center for Medical Progress follows all applicable laws in the course of our investigative journalism work and will contest all attempts from Planned Parenthood and their allies to silence our First Amendment rights," he said. The center has released several secretly recorded videos that have riled anti-abortion activists, including one Thursday of a Planned Parenthood doctor in Colorado. It has accused Planned Parenthood of selling fetal tissue for profit, which is illegal, and Republicans in Congress have begun discussing cutting off funding for the organization. The undercover video released Thursday shows Dr. Savita Ginde, vice president of Denver-based Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, discussing prices of aborted fetal remains, the center says. Planned Parenthood issued a statement calling the video "misleading and deceptively edited." To record a confidential communication in California, all parties participating in it must agree to the recording. Republicans fell short of the 60 votes needed to move forward with the legislation, which was fast-tracked to the floor after the release of undercover videos that show Planned Parenthood officials discussing fetal tissue from abortions. Only two Democrats, Sens. Joe Donnelly (Ind.) and Joe Manchin (W.Va.), voted for the legislation, while two Republicans, Sen. Mark Kirk (Ill.) and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), voted against it.McConnell voted no to preserve the option of bringing up the bill again. Kirk, who is facing a tough reelection race in 2016, had signaled he was likely to break with his party on the vote, citing the preventive health services that Planned Parenthood provides. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who is running for president, was the only member to miss the vote. McConnell and other supporters of the defunding bill said it would protect women’s access to medical services because the roughly $500 million in federal funding would be redistributed to other organizations, such as community health centers. “Instead of subsidizing a political group, this bill would ensure funds continue to flow to community health centers and hospitals that provide more comprehensive health services — and have many more facilities nationwide,” McConnell said Monday on the Senate floor. Republicans noted that there are 21 million people served by community health centers across the country, compare with the 2.7 million people served by Planned Parenthood. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and other Democrats portrayed the legislation as an attack on women’s health and said community health centers would not be able to fill the gaps. “It’s our responsibility in the Senate to ensure that American women have access to care,” Reid said. “It’s our obligation to protect our wives our sisters, our daughters, our granddaughters. Protect them from the absurd policies of a Republican Party that has lost its moral compass.” Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) suggested that the effort was misguided, comparing it to “attacking Brazil after Pearl Harbor. It's a vigorous response, but it's the wrong target.” The Senate vote mostly fell along party lines, with only Manchin and Donnelly breaking from the Democrats. Donnelly in a statement said he was "very concerned" by what he had seen in the Planned Parenthood videos. “While Planned Parenthood clinics in Indiana do not partake in fetal tissue donation and were found to be following the law, today’s vote is about Planned Parenthood clinics around the country. I cannot in good faith support federal funding for this organization until the questions of whether other clinics are complying with federal and state laws are answered," Donnelly said in a statement to The Hill. The Senate vote Monday is just the beginning of what is expected to be a long fight over funding for the group. The anti-abortion group behind the videos, the Center for Medical Progress, says that it will be releasing as many as 10 more in the weeks to come, which could continue to fan the flames of the debate. Some Republicans already have their sights on the government funding debate in September, raising the prospect of a government shutdown if the sides cannot agree on whether to fund the group or not. The White House has already vowed that President Obama would veto any spending that strips funding from Planned Parenthood. But 18 House conservatives wrote a letter to Republican leaders saying they will not vote for any spending bill that includes Planned Parenthood funding, and that number could grow during the August recess. Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Kirk had introduced separate legislation that they were planning to offer as an amendment to the Planned Parenthood bill if it overcame Monday’s hurdle. Their proposal would have required the Department of Justice to investigate if Planned Parenthood or any facilities violated federal law. It would also only cut off federal funding to the organization's facilities that profited off of harvesting fetal tissue. The Maine Republican suggested that her proposal would be a more “targeted” approach compared to a blanket ban on federal funding. “The bill that has been proposed by several of my colleagues would require women to give up the health provider of their choice when we don’t yet know all of the facts about Planned Parenthood’s actions,” Collins said, adding that she has “received assurances from the Majority Leader that should the motion to proceed succeed, that there will be ample opportunity to offer amendments.” The Planned Parenthood debate was stirred by a series of undercover videos that show officials with the group discussing the price of fetal tissue for medical research. While Planned Parenthood notes the officials are discussing compensation for the sales rather than profit, the videos have put the group on the defensive and prompted it to hire a crisis communications firm. Calling it “grotesque and utterly disturbing,” GOP candidate Mike Huckabee told WND, “The apparent selling of aborted body parts by Planned Parenthood is just the latest disturbing news out of the abortion industry.” He added, “This underscores my desire to defund Planned Parenthood, as I have pledged to do in my ‘Pledge to the People.‘ The sanctity of every human life, both born and unborn, is a value we must always fight for.” An undercover video released Tuesday showed Planned Parenthood’s senior director of medical services, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, describing how her organization sells the body parts of aborted unborn children – a felony punishable by imprisonment – and admitting she uses partial-birth abortions to harvest intact body parts. “The truth of Planned Parenthood’s grisly objectives is now confirmed,” Michele Bachmann told WND. “Planned Parenthood’s goal has always been about making hundreds of millions of dollars a year off the troubles of young pregnant women,” said the retired congresswoman from Minnesota. “Planned Parenthood makes money on birth control, on youth sex education (which doesn’t discourage underage sexual activity), on abortions (as the largest abortion provider in the United States), and now on the illegal trafficking of aborted fetal parts. “It is time for Congress and state legislatures to wake up, take action and stop taxpayer money from going to this heartless organization responsible, literally for the deaths of millions of unborn Americans,” declared Bachmann. When Clinton announced her candidacy, Planned Parenthood gave her a warm welcome and a ringing endorsement: “Hillary Clinton is a strong and steadfast advocate for women’s health and rights,” Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Cecile Richards said in a statement. “In our nation’s history, there has not been a candidate for president with a stronger commitment to women or a clearer record on behalf of women’s health and rights. … Hillary Clinton’s record and commitment is in stark contrast to the GOP presidential contenders so far who have records of trying to restrict access to safe and legal abortion, affordable birth control, and women’s health care providers like Planned Parenthood.” The Clinton campaign had not returned a WND request for comment at the time of this report. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who is also calling for the defunding of Planned Parenthood, as well as a congressional investigation. “Congress should immediately begin an investigation of Planned Parenthood’s activities regarding the sale and transfer of aborted body parts, including who is obtaining them and what they are being used for,” Cruz demanded after the release of an undercover video showing a Planned Parenthood’s senior executive describe how her organization sells the body parts of aborted unborn children. “And it should renew efforts to fully defund Planned Parenthood to ensure that its morally bankrupt business receives not one penny of taxpayer money,” added the senator in a statement. “Today’s news regarding allegations that Planned Parenthood is possibly selling the body parts of the babies it has aborted is sickening,” said Cruz. “There is no place for taxpayer funding of organizations that profit from taking away innocent life, much less profiting off the bodies of the lives they have stolen.” In 2014 alone, Planned Parenthood donated $404,907 to House Democrats and $2,823 to House Republicans, according to OpenSecrets.org. The group also donated $181,188 to Senate Democrats. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal also called for an investigation of Planned Parenthood Tuesday and opened a state investigation into the organization. “Today’s video of a Planned Parenthood official discussing the systematic harvesting and trafficking of human body parts is shocking and gruesome,” Jindal said in a statement. “This same organization is seeking to open an abortion clinic in New Orleans. I have instructed Louisiana’s Department of Health and Hospitals to conduct an immediate investigation into this alleged evil and illegal activity and to not issue any licenses until this investigation is complete.” He added, “I am also asking the FBI to assist DHH in investigating this alleged criminal activity by this organization.” Funding shelved A statement from the Family Research Council applauded House Republican leadership for cancelling a vote scheduled Tuesday on H.R. 2722, the Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Act. The group said the measure that “would have poured up to $4,750,000 into the Susan G. Komen Foundation, a major donor to Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion provider.” In a statement, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said, “It is past time for the federal government to stop funding Planned Parenthood, an organization that has provided cover for sex traffickers, engaged in gender targeting, and is known for dirty, bloody clinics. “Congress must investigate these charges to ensure that unborn babies are not being aborted to harvest their organs and body parts.” “This bill’s goals are well-intended, but the results will only fund the nation’s largest provider of abortions. There are better ways to fund cancer research that don’t involve Planned Parenthood,” concluded Perkins. Facebook blocks video comments The website Twitchy is reporting Facebook is blocking posts about the Planned Parenthood video, and published tweets from people whose posts have been banned. With the mainstream media managing to avoid reporting the story so far, Twitchy said it apparently was not deemed newsworthy, at least, “not according to Facebook.” Federal crime In the video released by the Center for Medical Progress, Nucatola is at a business lunch with a man and a woman posing as buyers from a human biologics company. As head of Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Medical Services division, Nucatola has overseen medical practice at all Planned Parenthood clinics since 2009. She also trains new abortion doctors and performs abortions herself at Planned Parenthood Los Angeles up to 24 weeks, Life News reports. The commercial trafficking in any kind of human body parts is a federal crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, a $500,000 fine, or both. Actress Patricia Heaton Others posted that they could not believe the story, that it had to be a “hoax.” But those who follow the abortion industry say they could only wish it were not true. While the cavalier attitude and details coming out of Nucatola’s mouth are shocking, they say it’s been known for years that this type of grisly merchandising of human body parts was going on inside abortion factories. “It’s all lining up,” said Alveda King, the niece of former civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and head of outreach for Priests for Life. “The dots are actually being connected. The founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, was one of the earliest proponents of eugenics as a means of reducing the population of blacks and others she considered less desirable. Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, is calling on Americans and their religious leaders to pay close attention, today and in the coming weeks, to the new evidence that Planned Parenthood is involved in the illegal trafficking of human body parts. “I have been involved for decades in the effort to expose the evidence that the abortion industry sells the body parts of the babies it kills,” Pavone said. “And I welcome this new evidence provided by David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress.” He said the undercover videos and documentation show how people at the highest levels of Planned Parenthood are negotiating the sale of body parts, and adjusting the way they perform abortions so that the organs are more accessible. Pavone collaborates with Mark Crutcher of Life Dynamics, who first exposed the sale of baby body parts some 15 years ago, and with Troy Newman of Operation Rescue, who has exposed many criminal activities that occur in abortion clinics. “We have on our website, BabyBodyParts.com, the images of some of the order forms that were discovered back then – forms that ask that eyes, livers, brains, legs and other body parts be shipped on wet ice to the researchers who want them,” Pavone said. WND contacted Dr. Deborah Nucatola seeking comment, but she did not immediately respond. Planned Parenthood responds to critics Planned Parenthood issued a statement saying Nucatola was only talking about selling “tissue” and downplayed the video. “In health care, patients sometimes want to donate tissue to scientific research that can help lead to medical breakthroughs, treatments and cures for serious diseases,” Planned Parenthood spokesman Eric Ferraro said. “Women at Planned Parenthood who have abortions are no different. At several of our health centers, we help patients who want to donate tissue for scientific research, and we do this just like every other high-quality health care provider does – with full, appropriate consent from patients and under the highest ethical and legal standards. There is no financial benefit for tissue donation for either the patient or Planned Parenthood. In some instances, actual costs, such as the cost to transport tissue to leading research centers, are reimbursed, which is standard across the medical field.” Ferraro then went on the attack against the video’s producer, which he chastised for trying to jeopardize Planned Parenthood’s “lifesaving” work. “A well-funded group established for the purpose of damaging Planned Parenthood’s mission and services has promoted a heavily edited, secretly recorded videotape that falsely portrays Planned Parenthood’s participation in tissue donation programs that support lifesaving scientific research,” he said.
