Here’s a photograph of Jessie Tarbox Beals, America’s first female photojournalist, with her camera on a street a century ago. While most female photographers of her time shot photos from the peace and safety of photo studios, Beals ventured into the world of photojournalism and made a name for herself through her tenacity, self-promotion, and freelance news photos.
Tea party switches to new operating strategy
by Joe Angione
Recently I wrote that some tea party groups are disbanding; some due to “burnout”; some due to believing now that Donald Trump is president, their work of promoting good government is done. While I still believe there are fewer local tea party organizations today than before Trump’s election, I was informed by Aileen Milton, president of a large tea party group in The Villages, Florida, that her group has not disbanded but has shifted to a new mode of operating; one that doesn’t hold regularly scheduled membership meetings, but reaches out to members and other conservatives through an expansive set of websites.
Milton operates several websites, led by a “master “site, The Villages Conservative Media: thevillagesconservativemedia.com. It video tapes special events and conducts interviews with international, national and local individuals and groups on a variety of topics and issues facing the nation. It also features links to important news sources, and a comprehensive archive of current and past presentations and interviews. Milton has also worked out a broadband connection with FreedomInAmerica.us where they have a separate channel that uploads her website programs to view on Roku.
Essentially, Milton has replaced traditional membership meetings with a much more convenient and timely access to conservative events, educational presentations, and interviews with guest speakers. The Villages Conservative Media brings the best of a typical tea party meeting right into the home, in a broad range of commentaries, ready and available to anyone who has the time and the desire to be involved in the conservative agenda.
In this age of soaring participation in Internet media, Aileen Milton’s package of informational websites may be the best model for organizations that want to cast the widest possible net of influence on the American people. You can reach The Villages Conservative Media at any one of these sites:
